Tai Chi for Health Newsletter
Tai Chi news and views - for Tai Chi students in East Sussex
Welcome to the New Year, and the
new decade...and very best wishes for 2010.
And a special welcome to all new students and
readers this
month.
And what better time to make a positive
healthy New Year resolution?!
Your Tai Chi practice & training acts an
ideal antidote to all the stress of
winter conditions, and is especially useful
if you have been snowed in or stuck in
traffic jams in recent weeks - we just
have to remember to take 10 minutes out
occasionally! The best advice is to practice
little and often rather than a lot once in a
blue moon.
Our New Year classes
start on Friday 8th January in Newhaven and
Monday 6th in Lewes, so please call 01273
470955 or book directly
online if it's easier (there's no charge for
this). Online booking stops automatically at
midnight the day before your class begins, or
when the class is full, whichever is sooner.
If this happens to you, please call to check
for cancellations or to add your name to the
waiting list.
Details of all courses are below...the
Beginners

in or ring
Paul, Bekki, Rosie or Silke on 01273

to hear
from you.

& Peaceful New Year,

Tai Chi May Be An Effective Treatment For
Dizziness, Balance Issues
Yet another study showing the far reaching
benefits of Tai-Chi!
Tai Chi, a form of Chinese martial arts often
practiced for its health benefits, may be an
effective treatment option for patients who
suffer from dizziness and balance disorders
(also known as vestibular disorders).
Tai Chi with Horses - starts this
Spring
Tai Chi with Horses, a new and exciting way
to learn about body awareness, launches in
Ringmer, East Sussex in April 2010. It is
believed to be the first of its kind in the
world.
Tai Chi improves balance, posture and focus.
Participants feel more grounded, more
self-aware, more connected with the earth and
nature, more able to withstand life's little
knocks and 'go with the flow'.
Horses demonstrate self awareness at its
finest. These animals are constantly living
in the present moment, moving around in their
herd. They often have to move out of the way
of one another at a moments notice. They do
this with ease and grace on different
terrains due to their own self awareness, and
we can learn from them.

Tai Chi shoes
Where to find your pair
Just loose comfortable clothing is all
you really
need
to start Tai Chi. Eventually, however, you
may like to
obtain the canvas-soled Tai Chi shoes that we
wear
in class. They are fairly inexpensive, and
can be worn
comfortably around the house as well as when
practising. The Costume Store at 16 Station St,
Lewes (above Equilibrium Health Centre) sells
them, at £7.05 a pair. They can also be found at
Yum
Yum's
supermarket in the North Laines, Brighton for
£10.50
a pair.
If you are planning a trip to London, there
are shops
in Chinatown which sell them for £5.95 a
pair
(turn left out of Leicester Square tube and
head into
Little Newport St). Occasionally they can be
picked
up at street markets for even less than this
(though
they tend to be seasonal). Make sure you try
them
on first if possible, as sizing is not always
100%
accurate.
Tai Chi training shoes are also available
online at
shops such as Wushu Direct (from £7.50 plus
£4.95 p&p) -
please see link below. If you find another local
retailer
selling Tai Chi
shoes, please tell us and we'll include
details in the
next edition.
